Zanzibar Stone Town Tour by Malasons Tanzania Safaris

Streets of Stone Town - Zanzibar

The Stone Town Tour is a half day (four-hour) tour, which begins at a central location in Stone Town. This is a fascinating excursion that winds through narrow bustling streets and alleyways, to the fish and former slave markets, consulates, the Old Fort, the House of Wonders and other historical sites. First you will visit the main market, which opened in 1904.

From there you will proceed to the Anglican Cathedral at Mkunazini built by Bishop Streers in 1874 on the site of a former slave market. Next you will visit the National Museum of Zanzibar. From there, you go to Forodhani Gardens, where you will see the former British Consulate, the Old Fort built by the Portuguese and House of Wonders known locally as 'Beit-El-Ajaib" built by the Sultan.

After you will have a change to walk around the narrow streets of Stone Town where most of the houses date back more than 150 years. You will see many bazaars, curio shops, restaurants, stores selling souvenirs. From here, you will visit Dr. Livingstone's House at the edge of the city.

The last stop of the Zanzibar Stone Town Tour is at Marahubi, where you will see Palace Ruins and Persian Baths built by Sultans in the 1800's. This tour highlights the Arab, Indian, Persian and European influences on this vibrant city and is both interesting and enjoyable to any novice.
